My infertility Journey

Should I share? Do I have the right? Did I “suffer enough” to be in the club? Will people understand? These are questions that swirl around my head. Below is a post I was suppose to publish on March 31st (my rainbow baby’s birthday) I chickened out. I was nervous to share my story. Being vulnerable is nerve wrakcing. I know I’m lucky to have a good outcome but maybe it’s not fair to people who are not there yet. I know that even having a few kids is a bigger blessing than many. I talked myself out of posting, I played it safe. But it’s been weighing on me since then and now that it is infertility awareness week I am once again called to share. I had a conversation with a few woman who encourage for me to share. Others who have their own journey and draw strength from community. My hope is that if I can give even one person hope then sharing is worth it. I know the pain of suffering in silence. I don’t want anyone else to experience that. Here is my story.

A decade has passed since my life changed forever. My husband and I are blessed with 5 beautiful & rambunctious boys. I know it’s not obvious, and you may never guess, yet I suffered from secondary infertility. I had my first two children at 21 and 23 and somewhat took for granted the immense miracle of pregnancy and childbirth. When trying for a third baby that all changed.

Growing up in a large orthodox family (I’m one of 7), I always knew I wanted many children. I’m not sure I had an exact number but definitely more than 2. When my second son was around three old we started to be concerned. Why wasn’t I getting pregnant again? We waited a few more months. We tried, we prayed, we spoke to doctors.

We endured lots of comments asking when the next one was coming. We got a lot of unsolicited advice on how if we just stopped worrying it would all be ok because indeed I got pregnant in the past.

Within a few more months, I was diagnosed with PCOS. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome basically meant I ovulated spontaneously and it is hard to know when and if I was in fact ovulating. The journey was very lonely. 13 years ago there was not much support for secondary infertility. In fact, no one really spoke about experiencing it, and many people I knew never even heard of it. We felt like there was no where really to turn.

To make a long story short, I went through lots of hormones, drugs and IUI’s all to no avail. After 4 years I finally got pregnant with a healthy baby and things were looking up. Sadly, due to a bacteria unrelated to my fertility journey, we lost that baby at 20 weeks gestation. We were devastated to say the least. To lose our baby after such a long wait was heart wrenching for us and our boys who were anxiously awaiting their new sibling.

After that we tried a few more things and ended up doing IVF. After a long and grueling process I was pregnant with twins! At 10 weeks we lost those babies. Once again our hopes were crushed. Would we forever be a family of four? It was time to be ok with what was.

Miraculously and by the grace of G-d I got pregnant naturally while on a break from treatment. After 6 long and painful years we were blessed with a brand new baby in our arms. Getzy was the light of our home (his name means light of G-d) and all of us fell instantly in love.

Thank G-d, two and half years later and four and a half years after that (with an ectopic pregnancy in the middle which I won’t get into now) we were fortunate to be blessed with another 2 boys.

I am so grateful that this topic is discussed more openly now and there is support for those going through this journey. I am so grateful to organizations such as Yesh Tikvah for spreading awareness and caring for women like me. Thank G-d I now volunteer to be a support for women going through similar situations and I am always here to talk if you or someone you know wants to talk. 

I feel blessed for my children and for my journey. One of the silver linings is my ability to better understand many of my clients who have gone through a fertility journey of their own. Each child and family is unique and has their own story. I am here to help document your story.  I don’t take any baby for granted and I am beyond lucky to be able to photograph these tiniest little blessings.

MOM 2 MOM

If you are a fan of CG Photography, you may already know I am a mom of 5 (Beautiful and rumbustious) boys. Although it’s hard to believe (and even harder to admit) my oldest son is almost 18 years old! So it’s safe to say that I am a seasoned parent.

As a business woman, I know the challenges that come with juggling the responsibilities of motherhood while pursuing a career or passion. Being a mom and a photographer has taught me a lot about balance, time management, and prioritization, and I want to share my experiences and advice with fellow moms.

For starters, I think it's important for moms to remember that it is impossible to do it all and it's okay to ask for help. As a momprenuer, I have learned that balancing my work and family life is only possible when I have support from my partner (I am lucky to have an amazing husband), a business assistant, family members, and friends. (It truly takes a village!) Having a support system can make all the difference and please remember you can do ANYTHING but not EVERYTHING.

Another piece of advice that I would offer to fellow moms is to try and be present in the moment. It can be easy to get caught up in the chaos of daily life, but taking the time to appreciate and enjoy the little moments with your children can be so rewarding. Although I am writing this blog while watching my son in the bath, I try to take time each day to shut off my business brain and just be present with the kiddos. Whether it’s reading a book, having a dance party or just cuddling in bed, the small moments make all the difference. As a photographer, I just want to remind you that taking photos is a great way to capture and remember these special moments.

I also believe that it's important for moms to prioritize self-care. Taking care of your own physical, mental, and emotional well-being is essential for being the best mom you can be. Whether it's carving out time for a hobby, taking a relaxing bath, or going for a walk, finding ways to take care of yourself can help you recharge and be more present for your family.

Finally, I think it's important for moms to remember that there's no such thing as a perfect mom. We all have our good days and bad days, and we all make mistakes. But at the end of the day, what matters most is that we love our children and are doing our best to raise them into happy, healthy, and well-adjusted adults.

As a mom photographer, I hope that my advice can help fellow moms find a sense of balance and fulfillment in their lives. Being a mom is a challenging and rewarding experience, and I'm excited to be able to share my experiences and insights with other moms who are on this journey.

Love is in the Logo

A question I get often is how long have you been doing this for. Every time I answer it surprises me that it’s been over a decade! It’s been an upward journey with constant enhancements as I go. At the end of 2019, I was so excited for a new decade; a fresh start. I had a list of things I wanted to add to CG Photography, including a new logo. I had my intentions set for the new year, and I was ready to embark on whatever lied ahead of me, or so I thought. When all the craziness hit, I felt lost, confused, and a little overwhelmed. Like most of you, I clung to my loved ones and health. I focused on family and on ways to give my clients a safe photography experience.

Fast forward to October 2021 and I’m finally ready to officially debut my new logo! Finding something that represents my brand was important to me. I knew I wanted clean, simple and me, like my art. After lots of research, some help from my friend Laura from Mom Boss Co. and many revisions, we finally got to “the one”. I love the simplicity and meaning.

Why a heart?

A heart is life, a heart is love, a heart is happiness.

As a newborn photographer and mother, I know how special bringing new life into the world can be, which is why I wanted to incorporate a heart into my logo. The heart signifies the new little life you are bringing into this world, a person you will love, with your whole heart, forever. A heart is our life source, and additionally, my name means life (in Hebrew). It felt like a full-circle moment.

My photography goal is to capture the life and love of each unique moment, and so a heart was apropos.

My commitment is to make each family fall in love with their baby and bottle up that feeling to keep forever.

I found out I was pregnant with my second when my oldest just turned one. I was so scared. Could I handle two? Would I be able to love him as much as I love the first? I felt like I was cheating on my oldest. I remember my aunt said to me “ the best gift you can give your child is a sibling”.

I love how my kids have built in best friends (and boxing partners) and brothers who will always be there to have their back. Yes my hands are full, but so is my heart!

Recently a few clients asked for samples of sibling images so I figured I should share these cuties with the world!

As a busy mom and business owner, there are always the things that get most of your attention. Of course I try to prioritize my current clients and my kids. Then, there are those tasks that constantly get pushed off and remain comfortably on my to do list for months (or years) on end.

Blogging is definitely one of those things. I know potential clients and followers like it (wait, does anyone read blogs anymore?!), and I’m aware that it helps with my SEO, but somehow it just doesn’t make it to the “must do” list. Until now. I mean, I’ve been working on updating my website so the images reflect my current work and I popped on to this page. I knew it was neglected, but I was still so shocked to see that the last time I was here was 2018. Gulp. 2018 is a lifetime ago.

This reminded me of the speed of life. Days are long (especially these days) but years are short (ok, maybe not 2020). Time flies. It just does. Since 2018 I have moved to a new city, had another child and survived a global pandemic. I don’t think in my wildest dream I thought in 2018 that I would have 5 sons, be living in the valley and I am certain I didn’t even know what “quarantine” meant.

2020 was tough for many, but there was definitely many beautiful moments. Here are some of the spectacular beings that blessed our world this past year.

And now here we are, a quarter of the way through 2021. Still in uncertain (and of course unprecedented) times. We have seen global devastation as well as beautiful acts of unity and kindness that have gotten us through. We are slowing down and recognizing what is truly important in life, and of course how precious life is.

Through all this, I have gained an even deeper appreciation for what I do. Capturing these precious and fleeting moments. Stopping and seeing the beauty in a brand new baby. Appreciating all the growth and development of a one year old, and taking the time to celebrate it!! Reminding families the importance of love and documenting the connection and bond. This is why professional photography is so important. No matter what we go through in life, we can always come back to the beautiful moments.
