Family is everything - Maternity and Newborn Portraits

When I first spoke to Mommy J she was asking about a specific date for her maternity portraits. She explained that the baby's daddy was a brain surgeon in another city and was only visiting once more before her due date. Of course, I accommodated them, and we had a lot of fun capturing this special time. They told me all about the long-distance relationship, and how he came to visit every few months. (I secretly felt bad for them, but more about this at the end of the story.) Every relationship and family is different, and we just have to do our best to make it work.

There's so much unknown during pregnancy. It can be nerve-wracking and exciting, but it's all part of the process. I love capturing this time to remind women how beautiful they are while doing the most amazing "job" a person can do. It's also so special for parents to show these precious images to their baby, and explain how much hey loved them before they were born.

Here are some of the moments we captured during their maternity session at my portrait studio in Hancock Park.

After the maternity pictures, we waited patiently for their baby girl to arrive, Of course they really wanted her to arrive on a specific date for Dad to be there for the delivery. Of course, I got the call, asking if we could quickly schedule the newborn portrait session, so Dad could be included before he had to get back to the OR.  Mila Rose was as close to perfect as possible. She was beautiful and very well behaved. She kept smiling during her session! I think she was so happy to meet me :)

My clients always come back for an in person viewing appointment. They see a slideshow of their images and I guide them in choosing the products that are perfect for their family, home and style.  Unfortunately Dad couldn't make it, but grandma and grandpa joined and loved the images! Mommy J chose a stunning leather deluxe album with all the beautiful images she chose. Now the part I promised to come back to.  One week after our appointment, I got an email asking if I could mail the album because they decided to move to the city Daddy is in! I was so excited, I literally started crying!! This couple was so loving and it was breaking my heart that Daddy would miss so many moments. I'm kinda sad they will be far away and I won't be able to do Mila's sitter or birthday session (maybe they will come for a visit!) but I'm so glad they got their happily ever after!

Meet Mila Rose.

Here's an actual spread (2 pages) that is included in their hand crafted, Italian leather portrait album.
