About Kindred Space in LA
Over 50 years of combined experience providing families with comfortable and confident support into motherhood. Kindred Space in LA is the only black women-owned and operated birthing center in the area. The idea to create Kindred Space was in response to the black maternity health crisis by friends Allegra and Kim.
Both women are Certified Professional Midwives and International Board Certified Lactation Consultants. They created Kindred Space in 2018 and their birthing center in 2020. The foundation of their practice and center is comfort and community.
Services
Kindred Space provides midwifery services, childbirth classes, and a strong parenting community in LA. Care begins with prenatal visits at their facility and during your pregnancy. When the time comes for birthing, you can give birth in your home or at their birthing center. Postpartum care continues for the newborn and mother up to 6 weeks after birth.
If you want their services, a complimentary consultation and tour of the birthing center are available. If you are interested in care, they invite you to reach out at any time during your pregnancy but do encourage the earlier, the better. They will interview with you to see if they can support your low-risk pregnancy and if they have availability for the month you are due.
Specialty
In addition to their midwife services, expecting parents may choose to participate in classes or support groups. Childbirth classes are offered in person, virtually, and hybrid to maximize your participation. Their classes are based on research and grandmother wisdom to give expecting parents quality and helpful information.
They also provide various parent support groups. Both moms and dads are supported through their community groups and events. They are not in network of any insurance companies and do not accept insurance as payment. They do have payment plans for care and encourage anyone to contact them for pricing information as their costs range.
